FDOT Begins $19.8 Million Repaving Project on SR 56 and Bruce B. Downs
WESLEY CHAPEL, FL — Drivers traveling through Wesley Chapel are entering more than a year of overnight road work as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) begins a $19.8 million repaving project covering portions of State Road 56 and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard.
The project covers approximately 7.3 miles across the two heavily traveled corridors and is expected to continue through fall 2027.
Where the Work Is Happening (FDOT)
The project covers approximately 3.8 miles of SR 56, from west of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard to Meadow Pointe Boulevard.
Another 3.5 miles of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard/CR 581 is included, running from SR 56 north toward State Road 54.
The contractor for the project is Preferred Materials, Inc.
Expect Overnight Lane Closures
FDOT is using overnight construction windows to limit the effect on daytime traffic.
The first scheduled closures have included Bruce B. Downs between SR 56 and Landry Lane, with work taking place overnight.
Drivers should expect additional closures as construction moves through the project limits.
The schedule can change because of weather and construction conditions, so FDOT's project alerts remain the best source for specific nightly closures.
It's More Than Repaving
Although the primary purpose is milling and resurfacing the existing pavement, the project also includes several roadway improvements.
Near SR 56 and Meadow Pointe Boulevard, crews will modify the merge and roadway transitions to create two 12-foot lanes for left-turn movements.
The project also includes safety improvements, signal work, lighting, ADA improvements and minor drainage work.
The roads are not being widened as part of the project.
