New Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA Set to Open Its Doors Next Month
WESLEY CHAPEL / PASCO COUNTY, FL — A new Family YMCA is about a month away from opening its doors in Wesley Chapel, giving local families a large new option for fitness, youth sports, camps and senior programs close to home.
The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA says construction on the Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA, located at 4379 Wellbeing Way in Seven Oaks near BayCare Wesley Chapel Hospital, has stayed on schedule through the summer, and the branch is set to open in September.

The roughly 50,000-square-foot, $35 million facility will include a lap pool, a teaching pool and a family pool with a waterslide, dedicated group fitness studios, a turf training area, basketball courts with pickleball lines, a two-story climbing structure in the Stay & Play area, and a nursery, all built around floor-to-ceiling windows. Family Programs Director Anna Carman, who previously led family engagement at the YMCA of the Triangle in North Carolina, describes it as more than a gym: "It's a community gathering place."
The Y has also built out its leadership team ahead of opening, including Andi Cornett as Membership Director, Becca Anderson as Wellness Director, and Michael Loftin, who spent more than two decades in Polk County youth athletics, as Sports Director.
Confirmed and Building Momentum
Tampa YMCA President and CEO Matt Mitchell confirmed the opening timeline in an Aug. 20 letter to members, writing, "next month, we will open the doors" to the new center, calling it "a tremendous investment in a growing community."
The community response has outpaced expectations. More than 100 families signed up in the first few days of online presales alone, before the branch even had a physical membership office open. Charter members who joined during the enrollment window get a $0 join fee and a lifetime rate guarantee, along with early access to all Tampa YMCA locations starting Sept. 1.
