Wesley Chapel's Stephanie Vazquez Set to Challenge Seth Weightman for Pasco Commission Seat
WESLEY CHAPEL / PASCO COUNTY, FL — Wesley Chapel voters will have a clear choice for Pasco County Commission District 2 this November after Stephanie Vazquez officially qualified to challenge incumbent Commissioner Seth Weightman.
The two will face each other on the Nov. 3, 2026 general election ballot for a four-year term representing a district that includes a large portion of Wesley Chapel, along with parts of Land O' Lakes, Zephyrhills and Lutz.
Who's Running: Stephanie Vazquez Set to Challenge Seth Weightman
Weightman, a Republican, has served on the Pasco County Commission since November 2022.
Before joining the commission, he worked as a regional executive for Republic Services. His family has deep roots in Pasco County, including the namesake of Thomas E. Weightman Middle School in Wesley Chapel.
Vazquez is a Wesley Chapel resident, Air Force veteran and Democrat.
She moved to the area in 2013 after relocating from Pittsburgh and served in the Air Force in airfield management, including time stationed in Germany.
She has also served on local nonprofit and community boards and previously worked as a public information officer for the city of Zephyrhills.
The Money Behind the Race
Campaign finance reports through July 31 show Weightman entering the race with a significant fundraising advantage.
Weightman's campaign had raised approximately $124,600, while Vazquez had raised about $56,200 and spent approximately $47,450.
More campaign finance reports will be filed as the election approaches, giving voters a continuing look at how much each campaign is raising and where the money is coming from.
Growth Is Central to the Campaign
The race comes as Wesley Chapel and surrounding areas continue to deal with rapid population growth.
Vazquez has made traffic, flooding and development a major part of her campaign, arguing that infrastructure has struggled to keep pace with new construction.
Weightman has pointed to infrastructure projects already underway in the district, including road and sidewalk improvements around some of Wesley Chapel's busiest areas.
The commissioner's role gives the winner direct influence over zoning, development approvals, county roads, drainage and other decisions that affect how the area grows.
No Primary Contest
With no other candidates qualifying for the District 2 seat, the race is currently a two-person contest.
That means voters will decide the matchup in the November general election rather than through a competitive primary.
The election is scheduled for Nov. 3, 2026.
For Wesley Chapel residents, the race will put two different approaches to growth and county government directly before voters at a time when traffic, development and infrastructure remain some of the community's biggest local issues.
